www.terynrobinson.com Guess what launched today! It's taken months and there are still a few bugs to work out, but it's up for you to hop on over to take a little tour and let me know what you think :) Now that the website is finished, I'm so looking forward to having time to actually photograph again! I've been up to my elbows between the website, having my print portfolio redone and submitting work to galleries and publications, so this is a big weight off my mind. Also! A couple of months ago some of my work was selected to be published in Films & Grains Magazine and the issue came out last week! You'll probably recognize some of the images from the polaroid contest we held last summer. You can check out the magazine (and buy it if you reeeeeeally love film photography) here. Phew. I think this post might be a little stacked :) Have a great day! Love, Hearts & Photos P.S. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the preview, but it shows one of my images twice. Wouldn't it be nice if you could take one photo, just give it a bunch of different names and submit it as new work? I'd save so much in film costs!

Day 56
Hello friends! Sorry today's post is so late- I've got a video project due and the programs I needed decided to stage a coup d'état and crash on me. Needless to say, I've been doing damage control for the last three days. Urgh.
Anyhow, yay for Mondays and exciting news! For the first time, I'm going to have this blog series available for sale on etsy!
Have a great week :)

The guys at Yale Custom Cycles were nice enough to let us bogart their bikes and shop for this shoot. And really, ostrich leather seats? Yes, please!
Have a great day :)

Day 35
The two days we spent shooting these images was so much fun. I decided that we should get up bright and early so we could use the window sill of a restaurant downtown to frame our shots. I'm not sure they would have appreciated this during the lunch hour rush.

See? Neat window, huh?
Laelia was doing surprisingly well considering this was the earliest she had been awake in about 3 years.

If you look closely, you can see that she's actually sleepwalking.
I had to stand in the street to get these shots and Laelia usually warned me about oncoming traffic. I'm assuming the times she forgot was retribution for making her get out of bed so early.
A police car was doing laps around the block while we were shooting to make sure we weren't the world's worst cat-burglars.
But it was worth it for the amazing light!
This little lady decided to join in the fun. We didn't mind.
I'm really excited to start shooting more portraits! I'll be on the west coast at the beginning of September, so all you vancouver/ vancouver-island-ites should give me a call! Have a great day :)

Day 34
I'm pretty in love with how it looks, though. If my body doesn't revolt, I might try it again tomorrow.

See these pictures? That's early morning sun, my friends. And that early morning sun was gorgeous, but painfully hard to wake up for.

Day 33
Even though I'm still editing the film, here is a preview of today's shoot just for you! Huge thanks to Laelia for being her gorgeous self (and bringing her amazing vintage wardrobe). Laels, you might be missing a few pieces. It's just a coincidence that the ones missing are my size.
Also, how many people do you know who can rock a shaved head and Chanel earrings?
Have a great day :)

Day 32
We can't wait to hear from you :)

P.S. We vow that you will never have to look at black + white images "with a splash of colour". Well, not from us anyways. We love you too much for that.
Dun da da!!! More exciting news! Hearts & Photos is now offering portraits!!!!!! I told you it was exciting :)
Now, while some of you may already be drafting an email to book me for your next 20 events, some of you may be saying "Hmm... Teryn, I like your stuff but I have questions" and that's ok. I'm here to answer anything you ask.
So obviously here at Hearts & Photos, our focus is capturing life on film. film + you = beautiful. But we like to mix mediums, too. Using a combination of polaroid, film & digital images gives our work both immediacy and endurance. Kinda like if the Tortoise and the Hare had a love child.
No matter what, we strive to present natural, organic-looking images that highlight your personality and capture atmosphere and character.
We want to chronicle every part of your life from family and engagement to your life and style. Oh, have we mentioned that we're more than happy to travel (you have been reading the blog, right?)
If you're interested and want to book a date or have questions about pricing, feel free to shoot me an email at terynrobinson (at) me (dot) com.
We can't wait to hear from you :)

Day 15
Today we're taking a break from our regularly scheduled polaroid programming to bring you film! Yes! Actual, developed negatives! From a camera!! I spent all of yesterday sitting on my behind, working on my portfolio. It's been a while (cough*a year*cough) since I updated it, and I had a bunch of images that I had shot, scanned, and swept into the dusty corners of my computer, left to languish while I avoided editing them.
Normally, I would have left this project for a day that I was supposed to be doing actual work. If I was supposed to do dishes or had an essay to write, you wouldn't have been able to drag me away from the computer. But Sundays are my fun day. Every Sunday, Steve and I head down to the flea market, go for coffee, walk around Kensington and point to houses we'd like to live in. It's our thing, and it's a nice break to get out of the house. And trust me, after working by myself all week, I need that break.
I'm not going to lie, working at home is great. If I want to sleep until 10 and work until 3 am, I can do it. I can make lattes all day without spending a fortune. I get to hang out with my pets and have manic dance parties in my kitchen without coworkers wondering whether or not they should have put 911 on speed dial. But working at home eight hours a day is isolating. By Thursday, I'm having full-on conversations with myself, and by Friday all I can think about is escape.
What could have convinced me to stay home and miss the freedom of the flea market, then? Money, that's what. A few days ago, Steve's boss mentioned that he had bought a summer home with a lot of big, empty walls. He and his wife had been thinking about getting some art for it, and they were leaning towards landscape photographs of Western Canada to remind them of home.
It came up that that's what I do, and he said he'd like to see my portfolio. Yikes. I'm a little anxious. It's nerve-wracking to give your work to someone. You question whether your stuff is good enough, whether they're going to like it, whether you'll ever be able to make a living at it.
Hopefully they like it. It'd be a huge boost to my ego to make a sale. I'm trying a new portfolio format- presenting it on an iPad rather than a traditional portfolio. I'll let you know how it goes, and how the iPad worked. But, for now I just wait.
Until I hear back from them, I'm going to plan my escape from the house. Maybe Steve will take a drive out to the mountains with me so we can watch the sun set. It's a pretty amazing view and anytime you can get a photo like this, you know it was worth the trip. Hey, if you're lucky, you might even get to see it in a year or so!
Have a great day (and wish me luck!) :)

Welcome back, old friend.
Today got off to a pretty rough start. I think I might have flipped my days around by working all night and sleeping half the day. It's my own fault, I know, but since I'm not such a big fan of life-lessons, I'm going to ignore this one.
Luckily, coffee always has my back. Srsly. After a nice, strong cup, I can plant myself in front of the computer and might only get a small imprint of the keyboard on my forehead. Today I actually got to do fun stuff on the computer, so my forehead is imprint-free.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a few rolls of film back from ABC Photocolour (plug here- they're awesome, professional, and fast! If you use film but don't like developing it, I highly recommend them) but since my scanner is a little fussy with film, I've been neglecting them. The poor little things have been crying out to me from the drawer I buried them in, and this morning I finally caved. It takes an entire morning to scan 4 rolls of 36 exposure film onto my computer, but the quality is so good (and it's free!!) that I have a tough time justifying having someone else do it.
Then, this afternoon, I got to do a corporate photo shoot with a company I used to work for (yay for knowing people! Excuse me, networking.). The light was perfect and I'm really excited to see how the shots turn out. When the photos have been edited, I might post a few here :)
The women I shot today were beyond amazing! It still blows my mind when you put regular people in front of a camera and, not only do they take direction, but come alive. Even the ones who were nervous ended up jumping off the screen. It makes my job so easy and fun and rewarding. And it's nice to see how appreciative they are when you take the time to make sure they're happy with the shots.
Hmm... those last few paragraphs were a grammatical nightmare. I think last night is catching up with me. On that note, good night, my friend. I'll talk to you later.
Teryn
